Diana Ross Family

Diana Ross is an American Singer, Actress and Songwriter. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 26, 1944. Ross was the second child in the family of six children. Diana Ross parents are Ernestine and Fred Ross. In her childhood, Diana Ross family was lived in Detroit.

The famous singer Smokey Robinson was her neighbor in Diana Ross childhood, who lives in the same street. At the age of 14 Ross family moved to St Antoine Street in Detroit, where she attended Cass Technical High School.

Early Life & Career

In her childhood Ross aspire to become a fashion designer, She took tailoring, cloth designing and pattern making classes and she also took modeling, cosmetology classes in school. To support her family Diana Ross worked at Hudson’s Department Store and also she worked as a hairdresser for extra income.

At the age of fifteen, Diana joined in the Primes (The Supremes). Initially, she worked as the costume designer and hairstylist for the Primes group. In her early career, Ross was performed at sock hops.

In 1960 Primettes started recording their song with trio Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Barbara Martin. Diana was graduated in 1962 from Cass Tech School. In 1963 The Supremes released “When Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes”, Diana Ross gave lead vocals for the song. This song was a huge hit and it becomes a top performer on Billboard’s pop chart in that year.

Diana gave lead vocals to The Supremes song “Where Did Our Love Go”. This song was the biggest hit in the Supremes Group history.

In 1968 Ross started to perform as a solo artist on TV programs. In 1970 Diana released her solo debut album on her name, which includes hit songs “Reach Out and Touch” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. In 1971 Ross released “Everything is Everything” and Surrender albums.

In 1972 Diana Ross debuted into a film “Lady Sings the Blues”, The soundtrack of this film became the huge hit, it sold over more than two million copies. In this film, Ross played the role of singer Billie Holiday. Ross performance got a tremendous response and Ross won Golden Globe Award and also she nominated for Academy Award but she missed it.

In 1973 Ross released her ballad “Touch Me In the Morning”. Ross collaborated with Motown singer Marvin Gaye and they released a duet album “Diana & Marvin”. The album became a huge hit not only in America, It went all over the world.

In 1975 Diana played the role of fashion designer “Mahogany” film. The theme song of the movie “Do You Know Where You’re Going To” became number one hit. Later Diana Ross released “Baby It’s Me”, “Ross” and “The Boss” albums.

In 1980 she released “Diana” album, The singles from the album “I’m Coming Out” and “Upside Down” songs rocked the Billboard.

In 1980 Ross left Motown and she signed RCA Records, They offered $20 million for seven years. In 1981 Ross released her first RCA album Why Do Fools Fall in Love. The album was the biggest hit and sold over one million copies.

Over the years Ross released hit several hit albums and singles such as “Swept Away”, “Eaten Alive” and “We are the World”.

In 1991 Ross was performed in Victoria Palace Theatre in front of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and Duke of Edinburgh. Ross was also performed at the FIFA world cup opening ceremony in 1994.

In 1996 Ross received World Music Award for Lifelong contribution for music.

In 2012 Ross received Grammy Award.

Personal Life

Diana Ross and Berry Gordy are in a relationship for few years from 1965. They had one daughter together, Rhonda Suzanne Silberstein born in August 1971.

In 1971 Diana Ross married Robert Ellis Silberstein, he was an American music executive and businessman.
The couple had two children’s together, Tracee joy and Lane Silberstein.

After six years the couple Ross and Robert got departed from each other by taking divorce.

Diana dated Gene Simmons for three years and they separated in 1983.

In 1985 Ross married Arne Næss Jr, he was Norwegian business magnate. The couple got divorced in 2000.
Together the couple has two sons Rose Ame and Evan Olav.
