Vera Farmiga is an American-Ukrainian actress, producer and director. She received Academy Award nomination for her role as Alex Goran in “Up in the Air”. Farmiga is best known for her role as a paranormal investigator in the horror film series “The Conjuring” and “The Conjuring 2”. In the film, Farmiga portrayed as famous demonologist Lorraine Warren.

Farmiga’s birth name is Vera Ann Farmiga, she was born on 6th August 1973 in Clifton, New Jersey. Farmiga parents are Ukrainians, She is the second of seven children. She was raised in the Ukrainian community and she did not learn English until she started schooling. She learned piano and folk dancing in her childhood. She also went on tour with Ukrainian folk dancing group Syzokryli.

Vera Farmiga attended Hunterdon Central Region High School and in 1995 she graduated from Syracuse University in Bachelor Fine Arts. In childhood, Farmiga dreamt of studying medicine to become an eye doctor. In her teen years, she turned towards acting and she went on to study performing arts.

From 1996 Vera Farmiga started performing in Stage Plays. She appeared in famous plays such as “Taking Sides”, “Good”, “The Tempest” and “The Seagull”.

In 1997 Farmiga made her television debut as the supporting actress in the film “Rose”. Following this, she starred in television films “Roar”, “Law & Order”. Farmiga made her silver screen debut with the movie “Return to Paradise” in 1998.

Farmiga got her first break with the film “Down to the Bone”, in which she played the role of a mother who was addicted to drugs. Her performance was critically acclaimed and she earned Los Angeles Film Critics award.

In 2008, Farigma won the British Independent Film Award for best actress for the world war drama film “The Boy in Striped Pyjamas”.

In 2009, She played Alex Goran role in the film “Up in the Air”. Farmiga got a huge appreciation for her performance and earned the nomination of Academy Award and Golden Globe Award.

In 2011 Farigma made her debut into direction with the film “Higher Ground”. She appeared as the main lead and the film got positive reviews.

In 2013, Farigma acted and produced the television drama series “Bates Motel”. The show is aired from 2013 to 2017 and Farigma earned Saturn Award and People Choice Award for her performance in the show.

Vera Farmiga appeared in the super-hit horror film series “The Conjuring” and “The Conjuring 2”. She co-starred with Patrick Wilson. Farmiga played the role of Edward Lorraine a Paranormal investigator and her extraordinary performance as demonologist earned her nomination of MTV Best Frightened Performance Award. Now she is also appearing in the sequel “The Conjuring 3”.

In 2019, Farigma is nominated for Primetime Emmy Award for her outstanding performance in Netflix drama series “When They See Us”.

Farmiga was born to Michael Farmiga and Lubomyra. Farigma’s father Michael was worked as system analyst and her mother Lubomyra is a school teacher.

Siblings

She has one elder brother and five younger siblings: Stephan, Nadia, Alexander, Laryssa and Taissa Farmiga.

Vera Farmiga’s younger sister Taissa Farmiga is also an actress and they have an age gap of 21 years and despite the age gap, they attached closely with each other.

In 1997, Farigma married Sebastian Roche her co-star from Roar. They met while filming the “Roar” and they began a relationship. However, the relationship was ended shortly and they took divorce in 2004.

In 2008, Farigma remarried American musician Renn Hawkey and they have two children. In 2009 she gave birth to son Fynn Hawkey and in 2010 she gave birth to daughter Gytta Lubov Hawkey.
