Golshifteh Farahani is an actress & singer from Iran. Her movies are widely popular at international level and won many awards.
Golshifteh Farahani was born on 10 July 1983 in Tehran, Iran. From the age of five, She started learning music and later she joined music school in Tehran. Farahani was graduated from Azad University, Tehran.
In 1998, Farahani made her debut with the persian film “The Pear Tree (Derakht-e-Golabi)”. The film received positive reviews and Farahani won Simorgh Prize in Best Actress category in Fajr Film Festival.
Golshifteh Farahani became popular in Iran with her first movie and after that she did 15 Iranian films.
Many of her movies have been screened at international movie festivals. Several movies of her controversies and banned by Iran government. In 2006, Farahani played lead role Sepideh in “M for Mother (Mim Mesle Madar)”, which became the highest grossing movie in Iran and Farahani won Kazan Film Festival award.
In 2008, Farahani made her debut into the Hollywood with Ridley Scott’s film “Body of Lies”, She appeared along with Leonardo DiCaprio. She is the first actress from Iran to be represented in Hollywood cinema after Iran’s Islamic revolution.
Farahani last Persian movie is “About Elly (Darbareye Elly)”, released in 2009. The movie won Silver Bear in Berlin International Film Festival and the Best Narrative Feature at Tribeca Film Festival. In 2017, Farahani played ‘Shansa’ role in the Hollywood popular fantasy film “Pirates Of Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”.In 2020, She appeared in Netflix film “Extraction”, along with Chris Hemsworth.
In 2012, Farahani posed nude for the French magazine Madame Figaro, which created big controversy in her home country Iran and gave her big trouble. Then Golshifteh Farahani was banned from Iran by the Iranian government. Now she has French Citizenship and Farahani is now living in Paris.
