Greta Thunberg is a Swedish climate activist. Her movement to protect the environment caught the attention of the world. She is the youngest person to be named “Time’s Person of the year” in 2019.

Her full name is Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg. Thunberg was born on 3 January 2003 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Thunberg first heard about climate change when she was 8 years old. At the age of 11, She was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (AS) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Thunberg began climate change protests from her home by lowering the carbon footprint. She became vegan, give up flying and does recycling. She challenged her parents not to steal her future.

From 2018, Greta Thunberg started school climate strikes by showing placards and handwritten posters to the people. She began skipping schools on Fridays to protest outside the Swedish parliament.

Thunberg launched the “Fridays for Future” movement. The movement was spread all over the world through social media and the internet. Many school students and people in Europe came in to support the movement and started against their leaders and lawmakers to act against global warming.

Thunberg also traveled to many countries, gave speeches to bring awareness. She met world leaders and requested them to stick to the Paris Agreement.

In 2019 September she was invited to speak at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York. She went to the United States by zero-emission Yacht with her father. Thunberg walked with the 4 million people in Newyork city to demand climate action at the New York City Global Climate Strike.

Thunberg’s speech at the UN Climate Action Summit was a sensation and it became front line news all over the world. She said to the world leaders

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing,” she said. “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”

“You are failing us.”

“But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to fail us, I say: We will never forgive you.”

In March 2019, Thunberg was nominated for Nobel Prize and also Thunberg named as Time magazine’s person of the year. She was the youngest person to receive this honor.

In May 2019 Greta Thunberg published a book “No One is Too Small To Make a Difference”, which contains her climate action speeches.

Thunberg was born into an artistic family. Greta’s mother Malena Ernman is an opera singer, Greta’s father Svante Thunberg is an actor and Greta’s grandfather Olof Thunberg is also an actor and director. Greta has a younger sister, Beata Thunberg is also a Singer.

Greta’s parents are in support of her actions. Greta’s mother gave up her career as a singer.
